Gas Cylinders:
The gas contained in a cylinder is identified by color code confirming to British specification number 349, 1319, 5340. in
case of cylinder with color code other than British standard, repainting of the color code shall be done from authorized persons
and should be made aware to all personnel concerned. The color code chart shall be displayed at stores, filling point and
at consumer end fro ready reference. The gas cylinders received is filled condition from supplier or stores must be identified
by color code and examined for any damage. A cylinder found defective shall not be issued or received and should be returned
to the supplier. Every cylinder shall have stamped serial numbers and due date of inspection. Stores should have the relevant
details of the cylinders received. The supplier shall provide valid test certificate issued by company approved quality assurance
agency for each gas cylinder.
Handling of gas cylinders:
a)
Gas cylinders shall not be dropped, handled without care or left unattended which may cause liability of damage.
Any compressed gas cylinder shall not be subjected to a temperature exceeding 54 deg C (103 deg F) including exposure to direct
sunlight.
b)
Gas cylinders should be stored in rack system and should be transported with great care. Excessive shock to
be avoided during transportation.
c)
The valve protecting cover/cap must be fitted when the cylinder is not in use. The protective collar provide
around cylinder should not be damaged at any condition. The protective cover shall not be removed until the cylinder is ready
for connection with the supply manifold.
d)
A standard key shall be used to operate the gas cylinder valve to avoid spindle damage. Cylinder with stiff
valve, any visible damage or defect shall be returned to stores stating the nature of the defect.
e)
While joining hoses or valve fittings, it is recommended to use approved washers and parts. Non standard accessories
would chock the orifice leading to dangerous condition.
f)
No work to be carried out on a gas cylinder,
g)
The pressure relief device should not be tampered.
h)
Cylinder should not be used as a support or roller.
i)
Cylinder must not be placed in becoming part of an electric circuit. When cylinders are used in conjunction
with electric welding, precautions must be taken against its accidental grounding or burning by electric arc.
j)
Regulators, threads may be of different movements. To be checked properly while fitting.
k)
Regulator, gauge, hose and other appliances should be used only for its intended purpose.
l)
Hand wheel not to be used on valve operation.
m)
Flash back arrestor to be used.
n)
Prohibition to transfer compressed gas free large to small cylinder. If to be transferred, approved procedure
to be followed.
o)
Prior to removing a regulator, the cylinder valve must be closed and pressure is released safely. When releasing
the gas, care should be taken to check for any ignition source. Shut down the process of venting immediately.
p)
Oxygen cylinder be kept away from other cylinders.
q)
Suitable color coding hoses to be used.
Maintenance:
Maintenance shall be carried out
only competent person nominated by authorised testing agency.
